“~ An Innovative Clock Generator With An Outboard Feel ~
In regards to clock generators, I started using the AARDVARK Aard Sync II in the late 90’s, and have been using the Apogee Big Ben for the last couple years. Honestly, with the internal clocks in high-end AD/DA converters being so powerful and precise, I started to think that I didn’t need an external clock. However, when I came across the Black Lion Audio Micro Clock MkIII and its positive reviews, I thought I’d give it a try.
After trying it out at my studio, I instantly noticed how it transformed the overall sound. The manufacturers must have put a lot of thought into making this product. Just by adding the Micro Clock MkIII into my rig, the mid-range sounds so much fuller. I think this is especially good for vocal production, making the vocals more present as if you had applied an EQ. I can hear some improvements in the high frequencies also, separating them and resulting in clarity. I didn’t think that external clocks were useful anymore, but since it makes such a drastic change, I thought that it would be really cool to have one around for different productions. So I ended up replacing the Big Ben with my new Micro Clock MkIII.
I believe this product has a distinct concept that challenges the high-end clocks that cost a real fortune. High-end external clocks priced between a couple grand up to 10k are your holy grails, but the Micro Clock MkIII is a practical and friendly tool that feels like outboard gear.
