Are you pursuing a degree in electronics engineering or similar? Do you love music? Do you get a lot of tech support calls from friends and family for help with their computers? Do you love the smell of flux in the morning?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then it may interest you to know that Black Lion Audio’s got a slot open for a summer internship in 2023! You’ll get on-the-job training in electronics assembly, repair, modification, and even design—as well as more than a bit of troubleshooting.
The internship will follow Columbia College’s academic schedule at Black Lion HQ in Chicago; summer semester is May 30 – August 19th. Individual schedules will be created after candidate selection. Full details are below, but please reach out via the contact form if you’ve got questions!
1. GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Black Lion Audio internship program is designed to supplement classroom learning
and provide real world experience in the professional audio equipment manufacturing
industry. Interns will engage in meaningful work that provides a fresh perspective on
audio gear. Technical prowess will undoubtedly grow as students explore electronics
down to the component level.
A. Primary Skill Acquisitions
i. Electronic Assembly – Students will learn proper soldering and de-soldering
techniques.
ii. Analysis & Troubleshooting – Students will learn to use various forms of
electronic test equipment including signal generators, digital multi-meters, and
oscilloscopes.
iii. Electronic Design – Students will grasp the basic concepts behind several pro
audio design topologies as well as some pros and cons for each.
2. EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
A. The below conditions must be met for participation
i. Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 12 hours per week (2 shifts split
evenly into 6 hours). Exact schedule will be determined at time of offer but can
be generalized into 2 shifts Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm.
ii. While this internship is primarily an educational opportunity, interns will be
expected to complete assigned tasks that contribute to overall company
objectives. Assignments must be completed to the satisfaction of site supervisor.
Interns must be willing to make improvements based on supervisor or mentor
feedback.
iii. Must be pursing a degree in a related field and participating in our internship
program for credit.
iv. Internship will be unpaid.
v. Program duration will be 1 semester and will follow the academic calendar.
