Our approach to the Audiofire 12 involves upgrading the op-amp path from the JRC2068 to Burr Brown’s OPA2134, which features about three times the slew rate and considerably less voltage noise (about 560 nanovolts for the JRC and 8 nanovolts for the 2134). We also modify the converter circuitry using our proprietary techniques for converter design. The result yields improved slew rate, distortion performance, and better converter dynamic range performance, and produces an audio signal that’s much easier to mix and process.

The scale is from 1-10, with “1” being unimpressive audio quality and “10” being true audio excellence. This is an exponential scale, so going from “1” to “2” isn’t nearly as big of a jump as going from “9” to “10”.
