Micro Clock MkIII

The Micro Clock MkIII is a significant redesign of its predecessor, the Micro Clock MkII. Core technological improvements include lower-jitter crystal oscillators, higher-quality galvanic transformer isolation in the signal path, dedicated output drivers with better isolation, higher-precision signal division, and much heavier noise filtration throughout the circuit. All of this results in a more robust, lower-jitter clock signal than the Micro Clock MkII, with even more desirable harmonics in the clock’s spectral band that impart an undeniable musical quality to the conversion process. The feature set has expanded to include an LED frequency display, six BNC outputs capable of up to 384kHz, AES and RCA S/PDIF outputs capable of up to 192kHz, an optical S/PDIF output capable of up to 96kHz, and removable 1U rack ears.

“Black Lion Audio gear is an indispensable part of my work flow. The Micro Clock MKIII adds a deeper dimension to my work. My mixes feel more solid, reverb trails are richer and more detailed, allowing me to go deeper into the sound space.”

– Anthony Molina, Engineer (Mercury Rev)

“The depth, spacial imaging and dynamic range that the Micro Clock MKIII offers makes mixing an even more enjoyable experience. It’s like adding vanilla ice cream to the warm lava cake.”

Kevin Brown, FOH/MON Engineer (Nicki Minaj, Jill Scott, Toni Braxton, A$AP Rocky, Outkast, Erykah Badu)

“The Black Lion Micro Clock MKIII and the White Sparrow DAC keep my chain accurate, detailed, and consistent whether I’m in the studio or on the road mixing live. Most word clocks on live consoles seem to be an after thought. When I connected the Micro Clock MKIII to FOH it was a game changer! Everything opened up and became deeper, wider, and more detailed.”

Tyler Scott, Engineer/Mixer (Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Mike Posner, George Maple, Brandon Flowers, Shawn Mendes, Major Myjah, Goldroom)

“Will your $1000 investment pay off in terms of the final quality of your music[?] According to our five evaluators in our long term test, as well as our Editor-In-Chief, the answer is a resounding ‘Yes!’ The BLA [Micro Clock] mkIII simply made almost every studio sound better. From a project studio, to a mastering suite specializing in electronic music, plugging in the mkIII enhanced the three attributes mentioned above [soundstage, center image, & bass]. Even in studios with more sophisticated gear, the mkIII made a difference.”

“For electronic musicians, ‘it’s all about the bass,’ and any gear that’s going to enhance your low end, should be taken seriously. This is the one area that every one of our reviewers cited as ‘something special.’ As one of our taste-testers aptly put, ‘what the [mkIII] did to the low end defies gravity. It actually separated the 909 kick from the creamy Moog bass…something I was not able to accomplish to my satisfaction in the mix.'”

“…for just under $1000, the Micro Clock MkIII is an excellent offering, hopefully signaling the beginning of a price reduction for superior clocking that will, eventually, allow more and more recordmakers to get into better, jitter-free digital audio systems, putting their inferior, prosumer-grade systems finally to rest. The world of recorded sound needs that, badly.”

– Allen Farmelo, Tape Op, Issue #109, Page 76

“I’ve never been one who believes a particular clock is going to significantly change my world. I’ve used some of the best names, and it’s comforting to know they all perform within a few degrees of one another, which is why I wasn’t dying to try a new one.

When Black Lion Audio sent me the Micro Clock MkIII, I waited till I had a room full of engineers and producers before plugging it in. In blind testing, the team chose the Micro Clock MkIII over our previous clock. I sat skeptical in the rear of the room. When I finally ventured to the sweet spot and A/B’d it for myself, it was clear. Black Lion Audio had surprised me. The Micro Clock MkIII produced a better depth of field and increased clarity.

In the world of mixing records, I’ll implement any gear into my system that brings my mixes closer to an approved master, faster. The mixes I’ve been doing with the Micro Clock MkIII have gotten better responses from my clients and make the decision-making process easier for me.”

– Tony Maserati, Grammy Award-Winning Engineer, Mirrorball Entertainment

“My sound mixes are in better focus using the BLA Micro Clock MarkIII”

– Brian Risner, Post Production Sound, Warner Bros. Entertainment

“When Krzysztof told me, ‘The PA is all yours,’ I went into the console’s menu and engaged the external clocking source to the BLA Micro Clock. We did an A/B comparison with playback music and there was no question about it – the BLA Micro Clock MKIII does the job. 48K never sounded so rich and clear. Krzysztof’s next question was how soon can a BLA Micro Clock get to Poland for him.”

– Omatali Beckett (working with Systems Tech, Krzysztof Polesiński in Sopot, Poland)
