The Auteur MKII 500 is a single channel, 500 series preamp that features phantom power, phase, a 13dBu pad, and a Hi-Z input.
The Auteur MKII 500 is one of the most “bang for your buck” 500-series preamps in existence! You get all of the sound of the 1⁄2 rack version, but with the addition of a Hi-Z input! It features an ultra-fast input stage that captures lots of detail and nuance, and a signal path transformer that adds some “beef” on the way out. Once you hear the Auteur MKII 500, you’ll want to load your 500 rack full of ‘em!
FRONT
- GAIN: clockwise rotation yields an increase in input signal amplitude, counterclockwise rotation yields a decrease in input signal amplitude
- 48v: engage to turn phantom power on, disengage to turn phantom power off
- PHASE (Ø): engage to adjust input signal polarity by 180°, disengage to leave input signal polarity unchanged
- PAD: engage to reduce input signal amplitude by 13dBu, disengage to leave input signal amplitude unchanged
- Hi-Z: engage to use front panel Hi-Z IN as preamp source, disengage to use 500 rack XLR input as preamp source

Having undergone years of odd fixes, modifications, and upgrades, the original Bluey was a singular and unique piece of studio unobtainium — until Black Lion Audio got their mitts and voltmeters on it.
After working with Chris to reverse-engineer untold years’ worth of mods, component replacements, and upgrades, Black Lion Audio was able to make the legendary Bluey sound available to the world with the introduction of the original 2U Bluey compressor.
